Summer Reading Program Coordinator

Carstairs Public Library requires an outgoing and enthusiastic employee to join our team! Reporting to the Library Manager, this position involves organizing, delivering, and evaluating the library’s Summer Reading Club for 5-12 year old's.

Duration: 12 weeks

Full time: 35 hrs/week, daytime working Tuesday to Saturday most weeks 

Wage: $16.00 / hour

Timeline: June 1-August 21, 2020


    1. Planning, promoting, delivering and evaluating the Summer Reading Club for children ages 5-12-year; potentially a mix of virtual and in-house delivery
    2. Scheduling and delivering school visits to all grades K-6 classes in the Town of Carstairs
    3. Coordinating the organization and delivery of SRC events (SRC Opening and SRC Finale)
    4. Evaluating and assessing the success of the program
    5. Supervising and mentoring teen volunteers


      • Experience working with large groups of children
      • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite; including Word, Excel, and Outlook
      • Completion of at least one year in a related post-secondary program (e.g. Education or Early Childhood Development, Library Studies)

      • A passion for creating and facilitating innovative programs for children
      • Friendly and positive attitude with excellent interpersonal skills
      • Organized and detail-oriented
      • Lesson planning strengths and time-management skills
      • Ability to work independently and take initiative
      • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
      • Customer service experience

This is a grant funded position and the successful applicant must meet the following criteria:

      • are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
      • are legally entitled to work in Canada;
      • will be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
      • are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
      • will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) during the work assignment;
      • currently enrolled in post-secondary and returning in the fall
